SPARK: My favorites

I can definitely see why Spark is one of Advocare’s best sellers. As an avid coffee drinker and lover, it has been an easy transition from coffee to Spark. While I did give up coffee completely during my two pregnancies, other than that, I NEVER went without it. And I am sure I will have coffee again, but I must say that I am enjoying and welcoming the switch to Spark! So far into our 24day challenge, my husband and I have had the Mandarin Orange Spark, Watermelon, Fruit Punch, Grape and Cherry Flavors. My least favorites are the Mandarin Orange Spark. For me personally, I will probably only have this flavor when mixing with the fiber drink during the cleanse phase. And then this morning I tried cherry for the first time and thought it was just okay. My favorites are watermelon and fruit punch and then my TOP favorite so far is without a doubt the……

GRAPE SPARK!!! It was sooooo good and yummy!! I can’t wait to have another one and so, when I enjoy something as much as I did the grape spark, it makes giving up the coffee that much easier!!!

Until next time,

Recipes to Use During the 24 Day Advocare Challenge

My husband and I are still on our 1st Advocare Challenge and am very happy to report that he has lost 12 pounds and I have lost 3.5 lbs and I am down a total of 8 inches!!! We are currently on Day 17. I wanted to share some recipes of what we have been cooking and eating at our house during the challenge. I must say I am loving the beautiful colors of these dishes! I hope you get some great ideas for your cooking…

Roasted Potatoes

Roasted potatoes

Small Red Potatoes

Olive Oil

Salt and Pepper

Preheat oven to 425. In baking dish, spray with PAM and small amount of olive oil to cover bottom. Quarter the potatoes and season how you prefer with all the seasonings from above. Stir well and bake uncovered for approximately 30 to 45 minutes or until done. So simple!!

Shrimp and Peppers

I prepared the shrimp and peppers separately for this because I decided to have Shrimp and Spinach (I will show next). I made the peppers for my husband and we shared the shrimp. For the shrimp:

1 lb shrimp–tails off

Small amount of olive oil in a skillet and Pam

Salt and Pepper

Red Pepper if you like a kick

Saute the shrimp in the skillet with all the above seasonings for about 5 to 8 minutes. Enjoy!

For the peppers, cut your peppers into strips: We used for this onions, green peppers, orange and yellow peppers. Saute in your skillet with optional Olive Oil or use PAM, all the peppers, with salt, pepper, garlic, cumin adds a great flavor and red pepper if you desire. You can also cook the peppers with the shrimp if you like.

Shrimp and Spinach

I think this is just beautiful!! It was delicious as well–especially if you are a spinach person–I LOVE spinach:-) but Hubs does not. I cooked the spinach in a skillet with small amount of olive oil and PAM. The seasonings I used are cut up onions, salt, pepper, and garlic. I combined the shrimp used in the recipe above and ta-dah!! A beautiful and delicious dinner!

Ground Turkey with Vegetables

Turkey and vegetables

1 lb lean ground turkey

Red peppers cut into strips

Zucchini halved or quartered

Tomatoes cut

Brown and drain the ground turkey in a skillet. Add all your vegetables and the following seasonings: salt, pepper, garlic, and thyme. Cook until at your preference.

Advocare Challenge Day 4: Preparation Tips

Well my husband and I have made it to Day 4 of the 24 day challenge and I am very proud to say that he has lost 10 lbs in 4 days so far!!! Seems so crazy, but it is the truth!! I haven’t weighed yet. I am going to wait and finish one full week. Hunger has not been that bad surprisingly! My weak times have ALWAYS been at night, so those are the times when I do seem to notice feeling hunger. My tip: I have just been going to bed and watching TV there–away from the kitchen!!! I am writing this during afternoon snack time and I am actually NOT hungry at all!! Maybe there really is something to be said about cleansing your body and getting rid of all the processed food and chemicals and how they make you more hungry in the long run??? I am going to continue to post tips as I think of them. Below are two pictures from my trip to the grocery store that I wanted to share:

These are many of the pantry items that I have purchased so far. I have actually just decided to leave all the items right there on the counter so they are always visible to us and EASY to grab. I went ahead and measured the almonds and put into baggies for quick access when hungry! I also laid out all the seasonings I use when cooking fish, shrimp or chicken and even the vegetables. My favorites are fresh black pepper, garlic powder, red pepper, ground cumin, thyme and rosemary. Yum!!

Day 4

Can I just say I love this picture!! It is so beautiful to me to see these colors! My tips for success: go ahead and pre-wash everything. And even better, go ahead and slice and chop whatever needs to be done and then store in baggies or containers for quick and easy access when hungry or ready to cook! This has been huge for me with having two boys and a husband to take care of!! I get everything ready when things aren’t so busy so that when schedules get hectic and we get hungry, we are prepared!!!

My favorite foods/meals/snacks so far:

Apples (they are so delicious right now!!)

We like to stir fry peppers and onions and eat with chicken, fish or shrimp

Tuna fish or salmon served on peppers (I just bought some leaf lettuce and plan to make tuna and salmon wraps this week–I’m excited about that!)

Smuckers natural peanut butter on top of a rice cake

Until next post,

Advocare 24 day challenge has begun!!

I’m on Day 2 of the Advocare 24 day challenge and am feeling really good and very motivated to rock this!! To go back just a little, if you read my “About” section then you know a little about why I am doing this, but here is a bit more. I decided to try Advocare because my dear friend, Melanie, had contacted me about it probably six months ago. With kids and our busy schedules, we continued to play email, phone and text tag with each other and never actually speaking about Advocare, but I knew she wanted to tell me more about it. I checked out the website and would see her facebook updates. I just wasn’t ready to move forward and especially, the big one was I wasn’t ready to give up COFFEE! But as time went by, I continued to see more of her posts and it continued to make me more curious about not only how good she seems to feel, but in the financial opportunity it was giving her! So, we talked and I bit the bullet and my husband and I are both now on the challenge!! I was so surprised (but very happy) he wanted to do it too!

Our mindset at this point is: we are full heartedly commiting to making this challenge work. I have 18 pounds of extra weight that I have yet to lose from pregnancies. Even though I teach 7 to 10 classes each week at the Y–food has always been my weakness. I am in great shape and feel good–but I know that I can feel even better! I’m excited to cleanse and adopt a clean, natural diet. Then, if we like these products and the way we feel, I will feel comfortable and confident truly endorsing AdvoCare. I like what I see so far and with bills, debt and possible private school tuition in our near future, I think this might be an option for us.  If Advocare can do this for me, then I hope to spread the word!!

I hope you enjoy and can find inspiration through my journey to become stronger!

Before I post my before picture, let me share that I NEVER, NEVER talk about my weight!! I have decided to go full disclosure and lay it all out there–and I never talk numbers! Those of you that know me, know I never discuss how much I weigh. I have yo-yo’d my entire life and it’s just something I never talked about. Even when about to give birth to my first son and the nurse asked me how much I weighed, I wrote it down and showed it to her since my husband was right there!! This is big for me…..but I want to blog my journey open and honestly, so here goes… “BEFORE ADVOCARE CHALLENGE” picture:
